Made to Measure Curtain Measuring Guide

This measuring guide provides information on how we require you to measure for curtains.

Pencil Pleat and Pinch Pleat

Width: Please include any overlap arms and returns if applicable (as shown below).

What is a return? Some curtain tracks allow you to clip your curtain around the side of the rail.

Pinch Pleat

As pinch pleats are made with a 5" buckram header and not a corded tape the curtains are made to the exact size required. We will need your exact left and right measurements including overlap arm and returns (if applicable). This information is required for the curtain maker.

Eyelets

Drop information: Please measure from top of pole to where you require your curtains to hang and then add 4cm (as shown below).

How to measure your curtain width - Pencil Pleat and Pinch Pleat

Always measure the curtain track or pole width (A - B), not the window. If you are fitting a new track or pole this should be extended to 15cm to 23cm either side of the window (to allow the curtains to be stacked back off the window) and 12cm to 15cm above the window recess. If your curtain track has returns then add the measurements onto the total width (C).

If you have a rail with a centre overlap arm (D), measure the rail (A - B) as shown above then measure the overlap arm (D) and add the two measurements together. If you curtain track has returns then add the measurements onto the total width (C).

Measure between the decorative ends (A - B).

How to measure your curtain drop - Pencil Pleat and Pinch Pleat

Curtains are best hung either to the floor, to the sill, or below the sill. We recommend that curtains finish either A)1cm above the floor B) 15-20 cm below the sill (or 2cm above the radiator) C) 1cm above the sill.

Always measure in at least 3 positions across the track or pole as floors and sills are rarely level. To avoid curtains dragging across the floor or sill, we recommend you use the shortest of the 3 measurements.

When using a curtain track measure from the top of the track to where the curtain is to finish. When using a curtain pole measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtains to finish.

How to measure your curtain drop - Eyelets

The eyelet will fit poles up to 3cm in diameter. The inner edge of the eyelet is set down 4cm from the top of the curtain so measure from the top of the curtain pole to where you want the curtains to finish, and then add 4cm.
